Description :
The Port Muhammad Bin Qasim is located 60km SE of Karachi on the eastern coast of Pakistan. Muhammad Bin Qasim is the second largest port of Pakistan after Karachi. It handles a wide range of general cargoes with a single berth exclusively for bulk iron ore.
Port limits:
The seaward limits of the port are bounded by Latitude Longitude 2442’N 06656’E – 2447’N – 06707’E – 2428’N 06705’E – 2432’N 06713’E. The entrance channel has a total length of 40km. The leading lights in line bearing 032.5, lead through the outer part of Ahsan channel. The leading lights are exhibited from round towers with red and white bands standing on the SE sides of Surveyors Sand and Buddo Island. Anchorage in charted depths from 17.7-20.4m, sand with good holding ground, can be obtained in an area situated 1.5nm W of the Fairway light buoy. During the SW monsoon, when a heavy swell persists, vessels are advised to anchor near the W end of the area and pay out extra cable. There is a waiting area on the E side of the channel, N of Zulfiquar Bank. A spoil ground is situated 1nm E of the Fairway light buoy.
Anchorage is prohibited in a restricted area established at the W end of Gharo Creek containing 4 mooring buoys.
Access to the port is made through an entrance channel 25nm in length with a min depth of 12.37m at the lowest stages and 11.0m at the upper. Min width is 145m.

The 7 multi-purpose berths are each 200m in length. Max drafts are dependant on seasonal variations due to the monsoons, 10.0m during the season, 11.0m out of season.
